June 1st 2008 PAUL detects 2 earthquakes, the first in the Phillipines and the second in the Macquarie Islands, both M 6.4. The second trace is weaker since it started below Tasmania, near Antartica

The vertical spikes along the 8:00 line are due to thunder storms in the area. The seismometer has recorded the pressure wave produced

The Seismometer will pick up micoseismic activity, including movement of pupils around school. It is possible from the trace to work out the start of breaks, lunchtime and lesson changes. The seismometer operates on universal time (U.T.) so add 1 hour to the times on the screen

Notice how the micro-seismic activity increases over the 24 hour period as the weather bcomes windier. This vibration is transmitted by the tree roots through the ground
